I am a Dental nurse at the Old Bakery Dental Practice in Steeple Claydon and have been trying out the new Inman Aligner. I've Created this blog to tell you all about my expieriences with the Aligner from work and at home.
First things first...
What is the Inman Aligner?
The Inman Aligner is a fantastic, simple and hassle-free way of straightening your front teeth. It is the orthodontic treatment of choice for adult relapse. In the past a way of straightening adult teeth was by veneering which is very destructive. Another way is through fixed braces and clear braces although these work well they do take longer and can also be costly.
The benefits include the following:
- It is only one aligner you will need.
- The aligner only needs to be worn for 16-20 hours per day.
- You can make the transformation from crooked teeth to straight teeth in 6-16 weeks.
- The aligner is virtually invisible
- It is at a fraction of the cost compared to other systems
- It has a proven track record
- The aligner can be inserted and removed within seconds.
Want to improve your smile in a matter of weeks?
Then the Inman Aligner is for you! The aligner works so quickly and efficiently, if you don't like the idea of having brackets stuck to your teeth or waiting months and months for a clear brace to work, you can now have your front teeth straightened in as little as 6 -16 weeks. The Inman Aligner straightens upper and lower teeth.
Compliance is paramount. The Aligner will only work if you wear it every day for the treatment time. Ideally patients should wear the Aligner for 20 hours a day maximum. Any less and the treatment could take longer to complete.
Here is an example of a case with the Inman Aligne.

Stage 1
Before I had my brace fitted, I had to have a set of impressions taken to be sent to the technican to make it.
This was an experience for me as I have never had impressions before, the first impression was of the upper teeth this one takes the longest! around 3-4 minutes, it felt asthough the impression tray wasn't going to fit, but it did. And the lower impression you'll be happy to know only takes a minute. Im not sure how to describe an impression, imagine wearing a gum shield, its abit like that!
I also had some very flattering pictures(clinical photographs) of my teeth to show what they look like at the start of treatment.
This is a picture of my teeth before the treatment started.
Stage 2
After my impressions were taken they were sent off to be made, a couple of days later it had arrived! And I was excited! After looking at my brace I was intrigued at how it works.
This is what one looks like..
For my case Dr McAleer used polishing strips to create small gaps between my teeth to make room for my Upper 2's to move into which will eventually make the upper front teeth align with eachother. Having my teeth polished felt like having a nail file inbetween my teeth, luckily no aneasthetic was needed. It just made me shiver. After the polishing was done a small lump of composite was stuck onto one tooth in my case (UR1) this is purely to keep the bar of the aligner in position. The lump of composite does feel odd at first but does feel better after a few days. I thought that it was really noticable but everyone i showed couldn't even see it!
Day 1
After being fitted with the applicance I practiced taking the Aligner in and out, this was quite easy. When first fitted I thought it would be uncomfortable but suprisingly it was comfortable but obviously felt abit odd to my tongue and lips. In the morning my teeth felt slighly bruised and I could feel the tension from the brace, although this was uncomfortable it was good to see that the Aligner had already started to work.
The only downside is, I talk with a lisp, but the biggest advantage is that it can be removed as easily as it was fitted! So if you have a meeting or just a night out you can remove it if you wish.
Day 2
Today my Inman Aligner is feeling tender when removing and replacing and Im finding it hard to bite down onto hard things eg. (crusty bread) but this is expected and there has been alot of tension on my front teeth. I found ibrofen works a treat. Since having the aligner fitted Ive been practising my speech as it says in the user/care manual it can affect speech for a few days. My tongue is still exploring, trying to find a place to stay!
Day 3
After having my Aligner in for 3 days now, it feels much better and the tenderness has setteled down alot with some help of paracetomol. Ive solved the art of taking out and replacing the aligner but my tongue is still playing with it resulting in an ulcer, I also developed an ulcer on my cheek, this is due to a metal spring on the appliance, this is easy resolved using othadontic wax, placing it over the area which is rubbing.
It looks like this
So... I have had my brace in just under a week now and Im just about getting used to it!
I will be back with more posts about my experiences, hope to see you soon!
